Chicago White Sox
SPORTS FRANCHISE
Founded 1893 as a minor league team which played in Sioux City, Iowa (1893-94) and St Paul, Minnesota (1895-99). Relocated to Chicago in 1900, still as a minor league team, and became a charter member of the American League in 1901 as the Chicago White Stockings.
Several star players were involved in the infamous "Black Sox" scandal of 1919, when the team won the AL pennant but lost the World Series to the Cincinnati Reds after several of Chicago's star players accepted payment from gamblers to intentionally let the Reds win.
